Mission Statement: (See Web Site For Updated Information)
UNICAMP is one of UCLA's oldest service programs, provides a recreational and educational summer wilderness camp experience in the mountains for underprivileged children. UCLA UniCamp is the official student charity of the University of California, Los Angeles. UniCamp operates as an independently funded non-profit organization linking the University with the community. Each year, UniCamp inspires nearly 1,000 children from low-income families to envision brighter futures by sending them, along with 350 student volunteers, to its residential outdoor summer camp. It also provides community service and leadership development for UCLA students. Students serve as camp counselors and are responsible for most aspects of the camp's administration. UCLA UniCamp starts recruiting student volunteers in the Winter for the following Summer. Each year, 350 UCLA students embark on a rigorous 80 hour training program spanning four months to prepare for camp, generally requiring a commitment of two hours a week during spring quarter and one full week of camp during the summer. Training and camp schedules vary by session, and there are usually 8 sessions per summer from which to choose. With the large number of volunteer spots available, we will make every effort to match volunteers with UniCamp sessions that fit their schedules. UCLA UniCamp Mentorship UniCamp has also developed a separate program through UCLA student volunteers which mentor young individuals between 10 to 17 years of age living in households at or below the poverty line. The program rests on a strong emphasis on providing a positive role model for mentees, building trust in mentor-mentee relationships and exposing mentees to opportunities in higher education. For more information about our Mentorship Program, which operates throughout the year, Contact the Mentorship Program Directors:
